John Riggins
November 13th, 1937 - September 3rd, 2009
Mr. John Wayne Riggins, 71, died at home on Thursday, September 3, 2009. He was a US Navy veteran and worked in sales in the transportation business. John was born in Austinville, VA and was the son of the late Fred D. and Alice Riggins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Deanna Faye Jackson Riggins, his son William Bradley Riggins, and his brother Dannie Riggins. Mr. Riggins is survived by his wife Laura Leatherbury Riggins; his son, John Wayne Riggins, Jr. and wife Dell, of Greensboro; step-daughters, Lesley Acker Payne and husband Frazier, of Mobile, AL and Gray L. Acker, of Mobile, AL; his grandchildren, Cassie Riggins, Chase Riggins, and Cole Riggins; step-grandchildren, Jenna Whitesell, Austin Whitesell, of Greensboro, and Lula Payne, of Mobile, AL; great-grandchildren, Allie Creed, Jaylan Woodell, and Jaylie Riggins, of Greensboro; a brother, Fred Draper Riggins and wife Marjorie; sister, Faye R. Hyatt and husband Tom, of Greensboro, and nieces and nephews. There will be a private family burial in Lakeview Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, September 8, at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 3506 Lawndale Drive, Greensboro, The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Monday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home, 300 W. Wendover Avenue, Greensboro, NC In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405, or to the charity of one's choice.
