John F. Sauer
April 18th, 1919 - July 18th, 2012
John F. Sauer, 93, of Henderson, NV, passed away July 18, 2012 at Odyssey Hospice Harbor House, Las Vegas, Nevada. John was born April 18, 1919 in Ault, CO to Alex and Katie (Kissler) Sauer as the first born of six sons. He grew up in the Ault / Greeley area and was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Congregational Church. He served the church for many years on their Board of Directors. He married Freda Ruff on April 7, 1946 in Billings, Montana and became a devoted husband and father to two daughters and a son. John graduated from Ault High School in 1938, while driving school bus. He worked on many projects for the WPA in the 1930’s and early 1940’s. He built the first bookmobile in Weld County. In 1941 he enlisted in the Navy and served four years during World War II, in the naval shipyards and aboard the USS Casablanca in the South Pacific, earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer in four years. John left the Navy to start his own construction business – Sauer Carpentry service, building a number of business structures still in operation in Greeley. He also did fine wood-working and cabinet making, as well as interior remodels and almost any job his clients asked him to do. After developing heart problems, he and his wife left Greeley, his home for 78 years, to live near his daughter, to assist in his care. John and Freda have lived in Henderson, Nevada for fourteen years, and attend Grace Community Church in Boulder City, NV. John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Freda (Ruff) Sauer,;his daughter, Linda Garrison and son-in-law Mike Garrison all of Henderson, NV; grandson, Scott Warburton LeMarca and granddaughter, Christina Colon, both of Knoxville, TN; grandson-in-law, USMC MSgt Charles Colon of Cherry Point, NC; two great-grandsons, Ryan Colon, 13, and Sean Colon, 7, both of Knoxville, TN; he also leaves behind brothers, George (Jo)Sauer of Byers, CO, Raymond (Emi) Sauer of Ewa Beach, HI and Richard (Regina)Sauer of Tonopah, NV; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his son, Dale John Sauer; his daughter, Susan Warburton of Mesa, Az; his parents; and brothers, Harold Sauer of Bartlesville, OK, and William Sauer, of Greeley. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Adamson Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at St. Paul’s Congregational Church, 1525 43rd Avenue, Greeley. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial Contributions may be made to "St. Paul’s Congregational Church” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.
