John Edwin Schatz

John Edwin Schatz, of Pine Grove, CA, passed away in Jackson, CA on Friday, April 19, 2019 at the age of 82. He was born in Stockton, CA on January 13, 1937 to the late Edwin E. and Martha W. (Feikert) Schatz, and was the beloved husband of Jacquelin D. Schatz. After proudly serving in the U.S. Navy, John worked as an electrical engineer at Underwriters Laboratories in Santa Clara, CA. He loved camping and driving off-road in his 1979 Jeep CJ-5. Our children and grandchildren and other family members have wonderful memories of fishing, playing games, campfires and enjoying our beautiful Sierras with him. He enjoyed almost 39 years of exercise and friendship at Jazzercise in Sutter Creek, CA (and previously JazzAerobics in the San Jose area). He was part of the coffee house “Liar’s Club” that gathered most mornings at our local Pine Grove coffee shop. A loosely knit group of guys that started in the early 2000’s when Sue opened the first coffee shop in our little community of Pine Grove. The coffee shops have changed venues over the years but this group of great guys has remained constant. John is survived by his wife, Jakki; son, Steve Schatz; daughter, Barbara Schatz; step-children, Sherrlyn Lancaster and Gwen Pillow; grandchildren, Kiana Schatz, Otto Schatz, Thomas S. Lancaster, Nicholas Lancaster and Michael Lancaster; his sister, Marilyn Feldmiller; nephews, Darrell and Jerry, and neice, Jill Engle. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard. A family memorial will be planned at a later date.
