John "Jack" Richard Slocum

May 18th, 1931 - August 19th, 2024

John “Jack” Richard Slocum was born on May 18, 1931, in Flushing, New York and went to sleep on August 19, 2024.

Jack is survived by his son Steve and his wife Charlene along with extended family members Nell Watkins, John, Peggy and Patricia Gaston as well as nieces and nephews and many friends who will miss him dearly.

He was the youngest of three  brothers.  On December 19th, 1956, he married the love of his life, Joe Ann Teter. They welcomed their son Steve on January 12, 1960.

Jack was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on November 2, 1963.

Jack always put a high value on spiritual things.  In March of 1978 he and his family were able to enter the full-time ministry as staff members of the World Headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Brooklyn, New York. This was a privilege Jack always appreciated.  He also enjoyed the privilege of working at conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses as well as assisting in the construction and renovation of over 50 Kingdom Halls.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  We all look forward to the time when the promises of our God, Jehovah, will be fulfilled and he will once again be reunited with the ones he loved to enjoy the best life ever.

Steve and Charlene would like to thank their many friends for the texts, phone calls, visits and generosity during this difficult time.  This is truly something they will never forget.  They would also like to thank Ozzie Stroud and John and Judy Pettit who were true friends to Jack while he lived in Myrtle Beach as well as Dana and Jody Price who assisted in making him comfortable when he moved back to Columbia. They would also like to recognize all the staff at the Lexington Community Hospice House - Agape Care, especially Ashlyn Miller, Crystal Clayton and Angela Jaquez who went out of their way to show him loving care during the last few weeks.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 3:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4560 Highway 321, Gaston, SC.

To the loved ones of John Slocum: Although we did not have the privilege of knowing Brother Slocum in this system, we sincerely hope to meet him under far better conditions to exist in paradise. (Rev. 21:4) We pray that Jehovah's promises, which we know cannot fail, will support and strengthen each of you until reunited with him in the not-too-distant future.
