John "Big John" Schirra Stroud

October 25th, 1965 - May 22nd, 2024

Rest in Peace, John Stroud. You will always be my big bro!

John Schirra Stroud, age 58, passed away May 22, 2024, at the Indian River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, in West Melbourne.  He was born on October 25, 1965, in Selma, Alabama.  John worked for Brevard County in Various Rolls For 29 Years, where he retired.  He Lived in Brevard County his whole life and grew and excelled through the years with work.

For Those that know and remember my brother, John.  He was:

  • First and foremost, an amazing Big Brother!  I'm blessed to just have known him, yet alone be his little brother.
  • He had an amazing relationship with God through the Satellite Beach United Methodist Church.
  • Though having some challenges, he was smart, brilliant sometimes.
  • He never complained or seemed to feel pain.
  • He was a great Joke Teller and Very Funny.
  • He was truly an amazing human being, that I look up to still to the this day.
  • Had a memory like an elephant.
  • He was truly always happy and a gentle giant.
  • and, Of course, he loved his sports: Football, NASCAR, anything racing, Monster Trucks, and Rock & Roll….etc..

  • However, here is something many of you may not know, well, it's at least a little brother prospective:

  • John’s Favorite Cartoon Characters was the Tasmanian Devil.  He has a tattoo of the character, and it was on his license plate.  I loved that!
  • John had a few key goals in life that he talked about since we were young. Weather  to Graduate High School, work for the county, get a CDL, and work his way up to Big Trucks and Heavy Equipment Operation.
  • He Did it ALL.
  • Though it may have taken him a little longer, he beat ALL expectations and achieved all his goals.

He was truly Extraordinary.

I am SO proud of him, we love him, and I miss him.

He loved the Mountains and loved life to the fullest through his relationship with God.

He is survived by his younger Brother, Alan, age 52.  John also leaves behind many Loved Nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews.  To our Family in Germany:  John and I are absolutely so proud of our German Heritage.

His wish was to have a very small private ceremony which will be held near Murphy, NC, where a portion of his ashes will be spread in the Nantahala River.

  • One of my greatest memories of John, was when we went fly fishing in the Mountains.  We had a blast, he really opened up that day like I have never heard before.  He caught 3 trout that day.  Though in truth, it WAS quite difficult and hilarious getting his waders on and off him!   I would not change anything about that day, and many many other fond memories of us having fun and being wacky.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John's name to the Satellite Beach United Methodist Church, 450 Lee Ave, Satellite Beach, FL, 32937: 321-777-0116
