Mr. John A. Tamas, 97 years old, of Tequesta, Florida, died Tuesday at Hidden Gardens Assisted Living Facility in W. Palm Beach. Mr. Tamas was born June 24, 1910, in Lithuania, the son of George and Barbara Tamasauskas, moving to Amsterdam, NY as a child. He graduated from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School and the former Albany Business College in 1931. Mr. Tamas served with the US Army during WW2. After the war he worked as a Laboratory Technician at Ellis Island. Mr. Tamas then owned and operated Archer Laboratory in Bronxville, NY and did work for Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville. He moved to Tequesta Florida upon his retirement. Mr. Tamas had been a communicant of St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church while living in Amsterdam. His love of St. Casimir?s continued throughout his adult life. Mr. Tamas was a 4th Degree Member of The Knights of Columbus and a member of The Knights of Lithuania. He enjoyed traveling, especially his trips to the Holy Land. Mr. Tamas was granted an audience with Pope John Paul II and with Pope Paul IV, during his visits to Rome. There are no known survivors. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Friday, at St. Ann?s Chapel in St. Casmir?s Cemetery, Amsterdam. There will be no calling period.
