John Edward Thompson, 82, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away, Sunday, February 1, 2015, at his home due to heart failure. Johnnie was born May 15, 1932, in Hahira, Georgia, to John Thompson, Sr. and Louisa Clements Thompson. Johnnie grew up in south Georgia, and as a young man, moved to central Florida where he settled down and built a life. Johnnie served in Korea in the U.S. Army. Upon returning from military service, Johnnie became employed by Doty Farm and Garden Supply, where he worked as a store manager for 53 years. He enjoyed dabbling in real estate and was avidly involved in various leadership roles in his church. Johnnie enjoyed books and movies about the American Old West and he had a love of flowers and dachshunds. Johnnie was a kind and gentle man who loved the Lord. He was a wonderful husband, provider, and father. Johnnie is survived by his wife of 27 years, Nancy Dorris Thompson of Winter Haven, FL, one daughter, Kris Newman-Lake, of Winter Haven, FL, and two sons, John Thompson, III of Auburndale, FL, and Samuel Thompson, of Dallas, Georgia, and one brother, H.L. Adams of Winter Haven, FL; he has 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and Delores Hall Thompson (1987).
