John Everett Tipton Jr, went to be with the Lord (Sunday December 28th 2014) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. John attended Hilltop Mission Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Kingsport Foundry after 42 years of service. John was a quiet, simple man who loved his grandchildren; and loved to travel and see nature. It is of great comfort to the family to know that in 2000, John gave his heart and life to the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. Tipton Sr and Margaret Ellis Bledsoe Tipton, and brother, Charles Kay Tipton. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elsie Tipton; two daughters, Debbie Mallett, Church Hill and Barbara Willis and husband Steve of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Alan "Little Alan" Crawford, Amanda "Mandy" Castle and Ashley "Boots" Blevins; one great grandchild, Avery Blevins; two sisters, Clettia Moore and Jewell Vanzant and husband Bud; two brothers, Curt Tipton and wife Delores and James Tipton and wife Jean; along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 till 7pm Monday at Scott County Funeral Home. A service will follow at 7 with Rev. Roy Darnell officiating. Music will be provided by the Tipton Family. A graveside service will be conducted at 2pm Tuesday at Holston View Cemetery with military graveside rites presented by the American Legion Post 3/265 with words given by his nephew Preacher Jimmy Tipton. Pallbearers will be Alan Crawford, Ron Castle, Grayson Castle, Jerry Rivard, Darrell McKinney, Matt Blevins and Steve Willis. Those who plan to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50pm. Carter-Trent/ Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Tipton family.
