John Angelo Tosto
November 9th, 1926 - December 1st, 2016
Obituary John A. Tosto, a devoted husband and father of 8, passed away peacefully December 1, 2016 at the age of 90 after a brief hospital stay. He was an artist. John was born November 9, 1926 in Farmingdale, New York to Angelo and Minnie (Tedesco) Tosto. He had an older sister, Barbara, who preceded him in death. He fell in love and married Maryann (Geiger) on May 21, 1955, who is also deceased. He is survived by four daughters, Donna Fisher, Gail Tosto Gelb (Jim), Melissa Wright (Robert), Jennifer Maher (Michael), and four sons, Guy Tosto (Nada), Peter Tosto (Holly), Glenn Tosto (Tina) and Neal Tosto. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Douglas and Kevin Fisher, Paula and Matthew Wright, Marianna Maher, Amanda, Nicholas, Erik Tosto and Vivienne Tosto, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. He grew up in Farmingdale, New York where he attended Farmingdale High School and SUNY at Farmingdale. He enlisted in the Navy and served as Quartermaster at the end of WWII. A lifelong artist, John had his own business with partner Tom Cullen, Toslen Transparencies, and Papas Pottery with his late wife Maryann. He also worked for Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage, New York. After his retirement from Grumman, John and Maryann moved to Colorado in 1987. He continued to "work" making furniture for local shops and friends. John and Maryann were active parishioners in Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church. Along with other members of OLP, they worked on stain glass projects for the church in their basement. This led to many long term friendships. John continued to use his artistic talents to make an altar, tabernacle and countless other items for Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church as well as Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Regis University. His most recent accomplishment along with volunteers was a stain glass replica of the Last Supper which is in Our Lady of the Pines Church. John was working on another stain glass project for his church this past year. Sadly he was not able to finish it. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed by all. John lived his life to the fullest. He was always busy with a project, but never too busy to enjoy being with family and friends. Visitation and a rosary will be on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Cappadonas funeral home. A funeral Mass will be Saturday May 6, 2016 at 10:00 at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church. Burial will be at Fort Logan in Denver, Monday, May 8, 2017 at 12:00.
