In Loving Memory of John Washington, II Dec. 14, 1957 - June 27, 2019 On Thursday, June 27, 2019, John Washington II, loving father, son and brother passed away at age 61. John was born on December 14, 1957 in Ruston Louisiana. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Chico in 1980, and built a successful career as a real estate broker for over 38 years in Los Angeles, California. John was a proud father of daughter Ashlee Sanford Washington of Cleveland, Ohio. Ashlee is a contemporary artist and later followed in her father's footsteps and became a licensed real estate agent in 2016. John had a passion for helping others and often volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club of Los Angeles to work with inner city youth to provide recreational activities for kids in need. He was a strong Christian man and a member of the City of Refuge Church. John was dedicated to his family and took on a leadership role at a very young age. He was a strong advocate for his brother Vernon who has autism and spent a lot of time helping his mother identify enrichment programs to support his development. He shared a special bond with his sister Juanda and was instrumental in encouraging her to follow her dreams in France, purchase her first home and was the reason she moved to Los Angeles to start her career as a healthcare marketing consultant. Having lived in Los Angeles most of his life, John accumulated a large network of friends. John was an avid sports fan and loved the Los Angeles Lakers. He was also known for his sporting event parties where he made homemade Jambalaya. John was preceded in death by his father John L. Washington. He is survived by his daughter Ashlee Sanford Washington, his Mother Mary Calloway, sister Juanda Calloway, brother Vernon Calloway and a host of relatives and friends. A viewing visitation with take place at Brusie Funeral Home at 626 Broadway, Chico, CA on July 18, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Brusie Funeral Home at 626 Broadway, Chico, CA. Graveside Services will be held at Glen Oaks Memorial Park, 11115 Midway, Chico, CA from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family is proud to support the Autism Speaks organization, which is dedicated to promoting solutions for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and research.
