Jon Thomas Frye, Sr.

December 19th, 1942 - August 17th, 2024

Jon Thomas Frye, 81, of Caldwell, died Saturday, August 17, 2024. He was born December 19, 1942, to Jack and Helen (Hoff) Frye. A year and a half later, Jon got a baby sister, Jill Ann Frye.

Prior to starting school, the family moved to Juntura, Oregon, where Jack worked as the railroad depot agent.

In 1958, the family moved to Horseshoe Bend, Idaho, when Jon was beginning the third grade. Jon completed grade school in Horseshoe Bend, then went to Emmett High School, as there was not a high school in Horseshoe Bend. There, Jon played football and baseball through all four years, and graduated in 1961, when he decided he wanted to be an accountant for the remainder of his life.

Jon married Susan Doreen Bernard while attending Boise Junior College. Jon Frye, Jr. was born in 1962 and son, James (Jim) Frye was born in 1965.

At that time, Jon and his family moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where Jon earned a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. After graduation, Jon joined the Idaho First National Bank’s executive training program in Weiser, Idaho. He then transferred to the Caldwell branch two years later.

In 1969, Jon left the bank to form, his own accounting firm of Dunn & Frye. In 1981, Mr. Dunn retired, and David Vauk joined the firm, becoming Jon Frye & David Vauk CPAs. The firm continued until 2016, when Jon retired to begin traveling with his wonderful and loving wife, Sharon. He enjoyed and appreciated his partners and fellow accountants, helping his clients, and resolving financially complicated situations. Many, if not most, of his clients became lifelong friends.

Outside of work, Jon enjoyed duck hunting on his pond in Caldwell, Ducks Unlimited events, and traveling with Sharon.

Soon they fell in love with Mesquite, Nevada, where they began to split their time at a home they purchased in Mesquite, and on the water in their boat at Sandpoint, Idaho, spending Christmas’ in Caldwell, Idaho, with family and friends.

Jon is survived by his sons, Jon (Donna) Frye Jr. and Jim Frye; stepchildren, Robin (Larry) Rezendes and Doug (Cherie) Lasher; grandkids; and great grandkids. Jon was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Jill Gray. Jon lost the love of his life, Sharon, on December 9, 2022. He will be buried beside her in Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell, Idaho.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 11:00 am at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, 624 Cleveland Blvd. in Caldwell, with a graveside service to immediately follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery. Services are under the care of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. (208) 459-0833
