Jon was born Dec. 23, 1943 in Caldwell, ID the son of Dolores L. Nitzel and George Probst. Jon grew up in Cascade, ID and lived there for 60 years. During his school years Jon was involved in every sport possible and he excelled at them all; he was a very gifted athlete. Jon was partially raised by his grandparents, Louie and Faye Nitzel while his parents traveled for work with the power companies. After graduating from Cascade High School in 1962, he went on to Boise Junior College and graduated with an associate's degree. He then started his lifelong career in the timber industry, first with J.I. Morgan and then onto Boise Cascade. His career path was not for the weak and Jon spent many years being one of the toughest guys around. In the early 70's he married Janet Lawton and together they had one daughter, Becky. His career with Boise Cascade led him back to Cascade and back to the mountains and woods that he loved. He spent many years working in the woods surrounding Valley County and he even enjoyed a short career in politics as the mayor of Cascade for a few years. Jon retired from Boise Cascade in 1999 and found the love of his life Suzanne Watts. They married in 2003 and together they built a wonderful life in Payette, ID. Jon lived his retirement years in pure enjoyment, traveling with his wife, fishing every chance he could and being the camp host in Hells Canyon. The highlight every summer would be the yearly fishing trip with his brothers Brad, Dave and Mike. He especially loved fishing and hanging out with his brother Dave; they had a very special bond. Jon is survived by his wife Suzanne; his children Becky (Robert) Madrigal, Clifton (Debbie) Morrow, Olivia (Michael) Jennings, Maya Adrine and Matthew (Kim) Williams; his brothers Brad (Ona) Probst, Mike Probst, Dave (Donna) Probst; his sister Pam (Abe) Welch; numerous grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way; as well as many more family and friends.
