Life ended much too soon for our wonderful son, brother, uncle, and nephew, Jon Brian Taylor. Jon died on November 21, 2013, in Chico, CA at the age of 54 from the effects of colon cancer and eventual liver cancer. He was born on April 1, 1959 in Chico, CA, and attended local schools. Jon graduated from Chico High School. Jon was the eldest son of Ernest Lavon and Charlotte Taylor. Jon is survived by his mother and sisters Sharon Spring of Chico, Cynthia Fredrickson (Terryl) of Chico, and a brother Matthew Taylor (Denise) of Tulare, CA. Early in life Jon accepted challenges. In the First Grade at Parkview Elementary School his teacher challenged the students to have perfect attendance. The reward was an ice cream cone at Shubert's Ice Cream and Candy Store. Jon completed that challenge! From then on Jon only missed one day of School in the next 11 years because he had to visit a dentist. Jon liked to read, work with his hands, tinker with his truck, and help those in need. He was employed at Tenneco West in Chico for several years loading and unloading trucks and working on the sheller. Eventually, Jon worked as a brick layer for Olson Masonry. There was no better way for Jon to relax than to watch Old Western movies, especially those with John Wayne, or read his favorite magazine, Cowboys and Indians, and anything else about the Old West he could get his hands on. Jon lived in his own home for the past 30 years. He kept life simple: he worked hard, accounted for every penny that he spent, helped family, friends, and neighbors, and looked after those who needed his help. Jon was particularly devoted to helping his mother after his father died. His favorite expression was "It is . . . what it is." Jon, thank you for the many, many acts of kindness over the years, for your patience with all of us, for always being the "go-to-guy," and for your goodness! Your family loves and misses you! A Memorial Service for Jon will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1450 E Lassen Ave., Chico.
