Jonathan Israel Edward Rutenberg

Jonathan Israel Edward Rutenberg, born in Johannesburg, South Africa on November 12, 1944 to Meir and Naomi Rutenberg, traveled to the other side on July 24, 2023 in his home in Cerrillos, New Mexico. He was married to Aline Fourier, holding her kite string for 36 years. She says, her gentle man from Johannesburg is still directing from the other side as starlight. He was a brave adventurer, lover, husband and father who loved reinventing himself, helping others and creating beauty. He was the captain of his ship, both literally and figuratively, and was always filled with stories as a world traveler. He has five beloved children – Assaf, Yaron (and wife Lisa), Danit, Lee'or (and wife Wendy), and Ydan – and three stepchildren – Ari, Mira (and husband Jason), Zachary (and wife Molly), as well as eight grandchildren – Kyra, Kyan, Kayla, Nicole, Sadie Joy, Levi, Flora and Maya. His brother, Shlomo Rutenberg, is a retired physician living in England with his family. In Jonathan’s last dance with his wife, and in response to a diagnosis of Alzheimer's, they created the exhibition, Shifting Realms: A Conversation Without Words, making images and beauty together.
