Jose Maria Albornoz-Ruiz, M.D.

Jose Maria Albornoz-Ruiz, M.D., 86, was born in Bogota, Colombia in 1933. For many years a resident of Baltimore, MD. Passed away June 8, 2020. He Emigrated to the United States in 1960 and practiced Psychiatry in Maryland for over 30 years. He retired to Fort Lauderdale in 2014 and moved to Wesley Chapel in February of this year to live out his final days. He was Roman Catholic and a former member of St. Sebastian Parish in Fort Lauderdale; Founder and past President of the Colombian Club of Maryland, he enjoyed traveling, bike riding, playing chess, tennis and the guitar. Jose is survived by his loving wife of over 65 years, Bertha (Betty); 3 sons, Martin (Jinny) Albornoz, M.D., Jose Albornoz, Jr. and David (Yanina) Albornoz; his daughter, Patricia (Sergio) Acosta and his sister, Leonor Carrasco. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, Kristian, Mickey (GiGi), Brittany, Erica, Madison, Sammie, Joe, George (Theoni), Alina, Sara, Kathy, Kyle, Suzie, Giulianna, J.D. and his great-grandson, Prince. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 12 from 10-10:20 am at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 am. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Catholic Cemetery at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to N.A.M.I.
