He didn't tell me how to live; he lived and let me watch him do it.

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we must announce the sudden passing of Jose Hilario Lucero, our beloved father. He was taken from us unexpectedly and words cannot fully express the depths of our loss. He passed on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 while returning from a fun vacation to Laughlin and Las Vegas, Nevada with two of his brothers and a friend.

 

Jose aka Larry to family or Joe to his friends, was born in Wagon Mound, NM on September 23, 1944 and was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM. Our father loved to spend time with family and friends.  He had a big heart and always helped others in any way that he could.  He always new how to put a smile on our face and make us laugh. 

 

His spirt lives on through his children, Janice Lucero, Jeff Lucero, and Jennifer Lucero-Montoya (Johnny Montoya). As well as his grandchildren Joel Lucero, Noah Diur, Xavier Montoya, Dominique Montoya, Jeffrey Lucero, Jamie Lucero, Roberto Espinoza, and great-grandchild Celestino Lucero.

 

He is survived by his siblings Richard Lucero, Carlos Lucero, Eugenio “Geno” Lucero, Laurencio Lucero, Vangie L. Weimer, Eloy Archie Lucero, and Eluvinia Ida Myers.  He had many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.  He also had many many friends. 

 

He is preceded in death by his parents Jose Hilario Lucero, Marie P. Lucero, his siblings Margarito Lucero, Lilian Lucero, Ruby Ann Lucero, and Jose Luis Lucero. 

 

Larry / Joe was a cherished father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a source of joy to all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of being a part of his life.

 

All services will be held at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church at 9502 4th St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114.  Tuesday, October 29, 2024 we will have a rosary at 6:00 PM and on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 we will have the funeral mass at 9:00 AM.  There will be a gathering and meal at the Parish Hall at 11:00 AM. Please join us in celebrating our father's life.
