Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel
Jose M Ramos
May 31st, 1921 - July 6th, 2013
The recitation of the Holy Rosary and Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday at Pacific Gardens Chapel and Tuesday in Capitola for Jose M. Ramos who passed away peacefully on July 6, 2013 at Dominican Hospital at the age of 92. His loving family was at his bedside. Mr. Ramos was born in Coalcoman, Michoacn, Mexico, and came to Monterey Peninsula in 1945 during WW II, as a bracero (contract worker). He purchased his first home in Seaside, California in 1952. He married in 1954 and brought his new wife from Mexico to her new home in Seaside. He later worked in Salinas and Pacific Grove before he moved to Santa Cruz. For more than 29 years, Mr. Ramos worked as an electrician at the Lone Star Cement Plant in Davenport. He retired in 1984, and enjoyed the past 29 years of his retirement before his passing. Mr. Ramos was a dedicated man who truly gave of himself, sharing what he had with others, and lived a spiritually fulfilled life. He was cherished and will be missed by those he loved. His family will forever remember his love and devotion to his faith, as he prayed the Rosary in Spanish every day. At the age of 10 he attended Catholic school in Michoacn, he was chosen from a select group to be educated in Mexico City, and then entered the Seminary for 7 years, first in Mexico City and then in New Mexico. In 1944, Mr. Ramos left the seminary to begin his working career in the Monterey Bay Area. He was very talented at gardening, and very proud of his orchard of avocados that he shared with his friends and family. He volunteered much of his time to the California Grey Bears and the St. Vincent De Paul Society. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maria Salinas Ramos, his five children; Jose S. Ramos Jr., Andres O. Ramos, Margarita Martinelli, Elvia Calderon and Enrique Ramos. He also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren; Erika Martinelli, Nikolas Martinelli, Lukas Martinelli, Gavin Ramos, and Travis Ramos. Friends may pay their respects at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St. in Santa Cruz on Monday, July 15 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 6 p.m. at the chapel. The mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 16 beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 435 Monterey Ave. in Capitola. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz. We will continue to celebrate Jose's life after the burial, with a reception at St. Joseph's Hall. The family has requested to please not send flowers.
