Jose Luis Valdez, 78, passed away on May 9th surrounded by his loving family. Jose was born in Reynosa, Tamps. MX. He was naturalized a US Citizen on May 13, 1986, he was the oldest son of Primitivo and Petra Valdez. He married Maria Nela Treviño on March 18, 1967, in Edinburg, Texas Jose worked at a young age alongside his parents and siblings as farmworkers for many years, migrating from south Texas to Arizona, Minnesota and finally landing in Wilder, Idaho where they made their home on Fish Rd. Jose went on to work for Obendorf Farms in Parma, Idaho as their crew leader and then along with his wife opened Casa Valdez Tortilla Factory in 1977 in Caldwell. Casa Valdez, a family business, and its brand “Best in the West” was a successful business serving communities in Idaho and the northwest for over 41 years until Jose retired and closed the business in 2018. He was an avid horseman, proud to ride his Andalusian horse “Alonia” in many local parades in Idaho and Oregon. He also founded a Charro association where he hosted many rodeo type events called “Charreadas” at his ranch and rodeo grounds in Sandhollow. He is survived by his wife Maria, and seven children and spouses, Christine Salinas (Roberto) Illinois, Sonia Maldonado (Aldo), Texas, Jose Valdez, Jr. (Pat) Caldwell, ID, Linda Romero (Joe) Caldwell, ID, Jaime (Elizabeth) Jerome ID, Jesus (Wendy) Caldwell, and Jorge, Meridian, ID. They are blessed with ­­­­25 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews. Sisters, Guillermina (Ovidio) Salinas, and Belia (Francisco-deceased) Gonzalez, and brother Rogelio (Criselda) Valdez. He was preceded in death by his parents Primitivo and Petra, and brother Primitivo Jr. A viewing for friends and public will be on Wednesday May 18th from 5-7 pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell. Recital of the Holy Rosary will follow at 7 pm. A Mass at Our Lady of the Valley will be Thursday May 19th at 10 am and interment following at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell.
