Josefa Luevano Corona
February 27th, 1929 - October 15th, 2019
Josefa Luevano Corona passed away peacefully on October 15, 2019 at the age of 90, surrounded by her five children. She is survived by her sister Mary and her husband Manny, her brother Inocente and his wife Juanita, and her sister-in-law Lucy Cisneros. Josefa was married to her husband William O. Corona in 1953 and were married for 28 years until his death in 1981. Josefa was widowed at the age of 52 and remained a widow until her death. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner at St. Edwards for more than 30 years. One of her passions was working at the church as a lecturer for masses. In 1985, she made history as one of nine women elected to the Oakland Dioceses first permanent pastoral council. "Its a first, were making history," noted Josefa to a local paper, "Not just for the council, but because the majority are women." She was a loving aunt, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her five children, George, Richard and his wife Richelle, William and his wife Tanya, David and his wife Lilia, and Anita and her husband Eric Fox. In addition, she is survived by her 11 Grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Josefa was born in 1929 in Fiero, New Mexico the fifth of 7 children. Her siblings were Salvador, Emma, Vera, Arturo, Inocente and Maria Elena. She moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1956 and started work for Pacific Telephone. She worked for Pacific Telephone until 1984 when she retired. After retirement she worked for Emmet Construction in Newark. In her retirement, Josefa traveled extensively to places like Russia, China, Australia and took many cruises to see the world. It was Josefas wish to live with her family for as long as she could and her five children worked together to grant her wish. May she rest in Peace.
