Joseph J. Altman, Jr., 85, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte. Mr. Altman was born April 3, 1926 in Astoria, Queens, New York to Joseph J. and Elizabeth (nee Baumeister) Altman and moved to this area 21 years ago from Westbury, Long Island, New York. He served 25 years with the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 98 in Charlotte Harbor, FL, was a veteran of WWII serving bravely in the US Army, and was of Catholic faith. Mr. Altman is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Valerie M. (nee Bradley) Altman of Port Charlotte; son, Joseph Patrick (Tammy) Altman of Port Charlotte; daughters, Vicki (Bill) Keeshan of Holiday, FL and Joanne (Mark) Selltitz of Palm Harbor, FL; brother, Henry D. Altman of Georgetown, IN; and grandchildren, Jameson Lee Selltitz, Melanie Selltitz, Alexis Altman, Chelsea Altman, Kristina Altman, and Joshua Altman. Visitation will be from 10 - 11:00AM on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Paul Schelm Funeral Home, 12687 SW Kings Highway in Lake Suzy. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00AM at the funeral home. Military Services and burial will be held at 1:00PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72 in Sarasota.
