Joseph "Joey" David Benton, Sr.
November 9th, 1954 - November 27th, 2023
Joseph David Benton Sr. (Joey/Papa), 69, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023. Joey was born November 9, 1954, in Charleston, SC, son of the late Joseph Benton and Carolyn Josey Benton. He graduated from Hanahan High School in 1973, and has an Associate’s degree from Trident Technical College. He retired from AT&T in 2006 after 30 years and is a member of Goose Creek Lodge No.401, A.F.M. Joey coached many young men at Tom Conley Field from 1981 to 1997 and loved every minute of it. He also loved fishing out on the lake with friends/family, camping, woodworking, working in the yard and being with his children and grands. He is survived by his wife Patricia Clerc Benton of 48 years, two sons Joseph David Benton Jr. of Louisville, KY and Justin Hale Benton I of Moncks Corner, SC. Five grandchildren: Justin Hale Benton II, Alexis Grace Benton, Caroline Anne Benton, Campbell Amelia Benton and Ella Mae Benton. One sister Margaret Benton Almedia (Earnest (Butch) of Richmond Hill, GA. Two nephews Stephen Kenneth Varnadoe (Cindy), Gary Vaughn Mangum (Emily) and one niece Caroline Almedia Couture (Alex), along with four grand nephews and three grand nieces. He is preceded in death by one sister Kathy Benton Heilman. Services will be private.
