Joseph Gerald Bergman
March 19th, 1968 - May 8th, 2023
Obituary "Joey" Joseph Gerald Bergman Jr., age 55, Colorado Springs, Colorado, unexpectedly passed away on May 8, 2023 from Cardiac Arrest in Colorado Springs. Born March 19, 1968 in Bethesda, MD to Joseph Gerald and Barbara Jean Bergman, Joe (known as "Joey" growing up) was their 3rd child and only son. His siblings Tammy and Tina were his first best friends, getting into much trouble together, and keeping each others secrets. They lived in Spain when Joe was young, while his dad was in the Navy and stationed overseas. Joe was born with a pin-sized hole in his heart, but that never slowed him down, although he was smaller in stature, he made up for it in determination and grit. Joe had the hole repaired when he was around 4-5 years old, by this time it had grown to the size of a quarter and was making little Joe grow weary from his heart not working right for him. Being such a willful boy, he didnt slow down much, causing his stitches to break open a number of times, which was exhausting for his mother, to say the least! Earlier in his life, when Joe was around 18 months old, his parents drove from Spain to Germany for him to have hernia surgery, this was the first of many hospital trips to come for Joe. He was quite the daredevil as a youngster. In grade school, he gave himself a concussion playing on the monkey bars, in Jr High, he broke his arm motorcycling on the backroads in Shavano Valley, hitting washboards along the highway, right before he was due to bowl at the State bowling tournament that year. To his surprise (and others) he bowled his personal best and placed in the Tournament! The family had moved to Montrose Colorado when Joe was in 1st grade, where he grew up, and graduated from Montrose High School "Class of 1986". He was a passionate Broncos fan, an avid Golfer and loved to go camping, fishing, hunting and to spend as much time outdoors as he could. He was very smart mechanically, spending a majority of his life under the hood of a car, but also had much knowledge of history, planes, cars, and politics. Joe spent the latter part of his life with the LOVE of his life, Sarra Weddle. He was overjoyed with the opportunity to be "Dad" to their four beautiful girls, Breanna, Destiny, Jessica and Madysan. Joe and Sarra met when he was 37 yrs old,and Sarra was 26. He was a service writer, and she ,a bartender. It was not exactly love at first sight, he was unlike any man She had ever meant. He was a hard worker, and he had come to the bar many times before they even realized they were interested in one another. She had four daughters, and her nephew at the time. He had just got out of a not so great relationship. As time passed Joe finally asked her out. Sarras response was what it normally was when guys would ask her out " I have five kids" Joes response was "Lets go to Chucky Cheese!" She was shocked by that, and let him take her out. She didnt bring him around the kids right away, but he would often see them, as she worked the day shift, and their lovely kids would often come in to see her, at work, and play pool. One of Sarras best memories of Joe was when Dezy had broken her arm at daycare, and he had let her use a vehicle to get to the hospital, as she didnt have a car at the time. This man didnt know her, but he knew that she needed to get to the ER to be with their daughter, and that was all that mattered. Dezy got a blue cast put on her arm, and Joe was one of the first to compliment her on the color. Sarra knew right then, he was the one for them! Throughout their time together, which looking back now, was far too short. They werent perfect, they didnt always get along, or agree with one another. But at the end of the day, they LOVED each other. Sarra was "His Trophy wife, and he was Her Old Man" He was her safety, and her best friend. Joe Loved their daughters, Breanna, Destiny, Jessica, and Madysan, unlike any dad could. He inspired Sarra and their ladies to be better at life. He taught her so many things about life that she never knew. Sarra taught him a few things that he didnt know, (Although he would never admit it) He was HER person! They built a life together, with so many amazing memories, they watched their daughters grow into women, watched them graduate, and helped them become beautiful strong adults. They were blessed with six Grandchildren, which he was so very proud of. He might not have always shown how proud he was, but he was.He was also very quick to remind them when they were being "morons". But he did it with love in his heart for all four of them. Our daughters were his proudest achievement! As sad of the loss this is for his family, Sarra is proud to say he was her Love, and although he is no longer here with her, Sarra is so very grateful for all the memories that he left her with! She knows that she couldnt have done it without him. He will be missed and forever loved by Sarra and their ladies!
