Joseph A. Borsch

December 24th, 1933 - February 10th, 2016

Joseph Borsch was born on Dec. 24, 1933 to Ferd and Catherine Hark Borsch. He graduated from St. Clare grade school in 1947 and attended Central Catholic for 2 years. He moved to Benson Polytechnic in 1948 for the radio courses he couldn't get at Central. He graduated from Benson in January, 1952. He knew his future was in the field of radio while still in grade school and built his first receiver around the age of 10. He became a licensed ham radio operator in 1950. His call sign was W7PNS. He joined Portland Radio Supply after being discharged from the army and was their service department. Two other employees an he purchased the company around 1960. He became the sole owner in the late 70's. He sold the business in 1993 and started Borsch Electronics at his home in Tigard. There he specialized in repairing ham radio gear, from handhelds to kilowatt amplifiers but enjoyed working most on "old timers", those that used vacuum tubes. He also supplied the communications links for security systems for many local electronic companies. His passion was repairing radios but most important to him was his family. He passed away on Wednesday, February 10, after a 16 year battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Lucille, sons Peter and Gregory, daughter Carolyn and brother Bill. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ferd. He was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Tigard and the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight from 2000 to 2002. A Rosary will be said on Thursday, Feb 18, at 5:30 PM at St Anthony Church, Tigard. Funeral Mass will be Friday, Feb 19, at 11 AM, also at St Anthony in Tigard.
