Joseph "Don" Donald Crochet

April 3rd, 1941 - April 19th, 2024

Joseph "Don" Donald Crochet, 83, of Colorado Springs, CO, died on April 19, 2024.

 

He was born on April 3, 1941, in New Iberia, Louisiana. Don was a dedicated member of the U.S. Army Medical Corps for 22 years. He excelled in his career, graduating #1 in his class at the U.S. Army LPN School at Madigan General Hospital in Tacoma, WA. During his service in Vietnam Don earned three bronze stars as well as several other meritorious service medals. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1982 with the rank of Master Sergeant. 

 

He later served as Procurement Director at the Colorado Springs Visiting Nurse Association and was Supervisor of the Colorado College Carpentry Department for many years until his retirement in 2004.

 

Don found solace in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Colorado Springs, CO, where he worshipped. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, oil painting, family card games as well as volunteering at his parish church and Penrose Hospital. He was also involved with Springs in Bloom and was self-taught in computer assisted design.

 

Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mildred Earline Crochet who he loved more than his coffee; daughter Toni Crochet Padeway (Glenn); son Steven Crochet (Claire); daughter-in-law Molly Mayfield; brother Nolan Crochet (Eva); grandchildren Matthew, Daniel, Rebekah, Gabrielle, Olivia (Adrian), Alex, and Joey; great-grandchildren Maddie, Kinsley, and Emberlyn; step great-grandchildren Selena, Mia, Genesis, Ariana, and Alessandra, who brought him immense joy.

 

He was preceded in death by his son Kenneth Andrew Crochet; parents Dennis Crochet and Marie Louise Crochet; sister Sylvia Belaire; brother Sidney Crochet; and other beloved family members.
