Joseph M. DiBlasi

Joseph M. DiBlasi, 57, of McNeir Avenue, passed away peacefully Thursday evening with his family by his side after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Amsterdam, he was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1971, and Fulton Montgomery Community College in 1973, Joe went on to obtain his New York State Insurance License and joined his father's agency. In 1986 he and his brother established DiBlasi Agency Inc. He dedicated his career to the agency and serving his clients. He was a member of the Professional Insurance Agents of New York and the Independent Insurance Agents of New York. Joe continued to work throughout his illness. Since the age of 18 Joe volunteered countless hours to area youth athletics. He coached Little Giants Football, Wee-Man Baseball, Bergen Post Baseball, CYO Boys and Girls Basketball and Cinderella Softball. He established the AHS Girls Softball Booster Club. A lifelong resident of Amsterdam, Joe volunteered in the community by serving on the Montgomery County Planning Board, St. Mary's Hospital Planning Board, United Way Board of Directors and as a member of Council 209 Knights of Columbus. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's R.C. Church. He maintained his optimism, determination and sense of humor throughout his illness. Joe will be remembered for his generosity, selflessness, and for being exceptionally devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving family which includes his wife and best friend of over thirty five years, Kathleen DiCaterino DiBlasi; son, Joseph M. DiBlasi, Jr. and wife Katie; daughter, Lisa DiBlasi Jones and husband Matthew; mother, Catherine DiBlasi; brother Daniel DiBlasi and his wife RoseMary and sister Kathy Ann DiBlasi and her husband Tony Hennies. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, the late Meadeo DiBlasi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Church, East Main Street, by Fr. John Medwid. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday evening from 4-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Interment will follow in the family plot in St. Mary's Cemetery. Contributions in Joe's memory may be made to the Little Giants Football or Amsterdam Girl's Softball League both in care of the funeral home office.
