" Joseph N. Fontaine, 65, of Shaw St, died Saturday at home. Born in Chicopee, Nov. 3, 1936, he grew up there, and following his military service, relocated in Palmer. He served with the navy during the Korean War from 1955-1958 and has lived in Palmer since 1961. He was employed by Cascades Diamond in Thorndike for 38 years before retiring in 1999. He was also a boy scout leader and Scout master for Troop 161 for many years. He loved gardening and tinkering with lawnmowers. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, the former Patricia Anderson, 3 sons Norman and his wife Sandra of Centerville, Bruce and his wife Lori of Ludlow, and Brian and his wife Tammy of Sturbridge. He also leaves 2 brothers Eugene of Springfield, and Bernard of Chicopee, along with 2 sisters Gabrielle Laflamme of Fairview and Gloria Couture of Chicopee. His 9 grandchildren are Nicole, Jessica, Shawn, Kaylee, Joshua, Jeffery, Keith, Kyle and Alex. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:15 from the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at 10:00 in St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 5:00—8:00 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to Quaboag Valley Hospice, 103 Fairview St, Palmer or American Cancer Society, 57 Suffolk Place, Holyoke, 01040. "
