Joseph Noah Hoggatt passed peacefully in answer to the call of his Savior on October 2, 2014. He was born February 16, 1927 in Lansingville, New York, one of 12 children to Rev. George and Emma Hoggatt. His family moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma and then to Van Nuys, California, where he attended High School. During World War II, Joe served his country in the Navy, and following discharge, worked in construction. In 1945 Joe met and married his first love, Ruby Weese. They had 4 children that they brought up to serve Jesus Christ and the Word of God. They lived in Granada Hills, California for many years. He taught Sunday School and eventually became a Deacon of Calvary Temple, a Pentecostal Holiness Church in North Hollywood, California, which was founded by Ruby's mother. Joe was a true man of God. His children felt so blessed to have such a devoted man of God as their father. Joe and Ruby were married for 34 years when Ruby passed away in 1980. Joe was fortunate to find love again with Marge, who also attended his church, and soon, they married. Following Joe's retirement, they moved to Tacoma, Washington to be close to his brother James Hoggatt, and resided there happily until his passing. Joe loved life and his favorite things were God, family, food (especially his hot peppers), gardening, fishing, playing cards, puzzles, reading, and of course, watching baseball and football. Also on his favorites list were road trips with Marge where they would enjoy the beautiful scenery, points of interest, and often stop for a picnic, while headed to visit family and friends. He was known to be a cheery, easy-going, gentle man ready with a smile, a laugh, a witty remark or story. He will be forever cherished, missed and loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife and partner of the last 34 years, Marge; his children Beverly (Duane), Janice (Tom), Greg, Joyce (Ed), step-children Deborah (Doug), Judith, Alan (Jennifer), Jon, Stephen (Stacy), 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, brothers; Ed (Dalpha), Paul (Jane), and Bob, sisters; Marion (Don), and Helen, sister-in-law Donna (wife of James Hoggatt), Lynda Hoggatt (former wife of Greg), numerous nieces and nephews. Honoring his wishes, there will be no services. Please feel free to visit and contribute to the Guest Book.
