Joseph William Layton, 75, of West Columbia, passed away unexpectedly Sunday. He was born on April 7, 1943 in Columbia, South Carolina to Melvin and Almena Truluck Layton. Joe is survived by his wife, Doris; daughters: Tara Farmer (Phil), Laura Layton Studley (Shawn), Melanie Layton Prewitt (Greg), Amy Layton Eubanks (Jim), and Karen McFarland; sons, Craig Giles and Brad Giles (Shelley); brother, Lon Layton (Cindy); grandchildren: Colton, Noah and Tanner Giles, Garth (Emily), Abby and Lane Farmer, Jack, Beau and Shay Studley, Lawson, Taylor and Kayden Giles, Turner Prewitt, Abby, Andrew, Jay, Josh and Jarrett Eubanks. He was preceded in death by sisters, Jane Gibson, Kay Smyrl; and brother, Danny Layton. An avid outdoorsman, Joe was a founding member of the SC Bow Hunters Association. He was most passionate about his family, friends and bow hunting. He was also an active member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth Children's Home of Columbia, PO Box 50466, Columbia, SC 29250. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Woodridge Memorial Park.
