Joseph Paul Matich passed away peacefully on October 29, 2016 in Jackson, California, at the age of 74. He was born on July 31, 1942, as the second of three sons of Paul and Helen (Mileusnich) Matich at their home in Amador City. He loved Bunker Hill and Amador County, and he died just miles away from where he was born. When his father died unexpectedly in 1963, Joe abandoned his dreams and left the University of San Francisco to return home to support and care for his mother and younger brother. Joe then started what would be a successful career as an independent insurance broker. He was the proud owner of Joseph P. Matich Insurance Services for more than 45 years. Joe was a family man. He loved and was so very proud of his wife of 48 years, Diane, and their two daughters, Stephanie and Karen. His grandchildren, Lukas, Mara, Liliana, and Lauren were the sparkle in his beautiful blue eyes. He was a loyal and dedicated husband, son, brother, and nephew. Joseph Matich was a leader and served as an officer in various organizations. He belonged to the Native Sons of the Golden West, Amador Parlor No. 17, and served as the financial secretary for more than 40 years. He was a Past Master of Henry Clay Masonic Lodge, No. 95 F&AM, Sutter Creek. He was a member of the First Serbian Benevolent Society, the Slovene Benevolent Society, and St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church of Jackson where he served as treasurer and a board member. Joe was a kind, generous, and loving man - and an eternal optimist. He accepted and overcame a multitude of life's challenges always with a positive attitude and a tremendous faith that tomorrow will always be better. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Tony and Daniel Matich. He is survived by his wife Diane of Amador City, his daughter Stephanie and her husband Jacob of Portland, Oregon. His daughter Karen and her husband Bill of Amador City, his grandchildren Lukas, Mara, Liliana, and Lauren, his sisters in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.
