Joseph L. Melancon Jr.

September 27th, 1930 - January 11th, 2024

Joseph L. Melancon, Jr passed away on January 11, 2024, he was 93.  He was born September 27, 1930, in Boyce, LA to Helen and Joseph Levy Melancon. After graduating from Northwestern State University, he joined the Army. Transferred to the Air Force where he served as an instructor and a combat reconnaissance pilot receiving the high honor of the Distinguished Flying Cross.  He was a member of several military and civil organizations. He met Louise in Washington; DC and they were married in 1968.  They lived abroad with the Air Force and Renee and Ray were born in England and Monique in Spain.  He retired as a Major in 1976 moving to New Hampshire and eventually settling in Colorado Springs.   He is survived by his wife, Louise Melancon, son Ray (Kaylin) Chandler-Melancon, daughter, Monique (Brad) Monson and grandchildren Nevan and Louisa.  He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters:  Beverly Felterman and Alene Melancon, and daughter Renee Melancon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Catholic Charities of Southern Colorado - https://www.ccsoco.org/ or a charity of your choice. A Funeral Mass and Military Honors Interment will be held at a later date. This notice will be updated once arrangements have been made.
