Joseph Vance Newland
December 13th, 1926 - December 15th, 2013
Joseph (Joe) Vance Newland, 87 of Mount Carmel, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Scott County, VA, Joe had lived in Hawkins County since early adulthood. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army and a member of Kingsport VFW Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382. He retired from the Maintenance Department of Mead Paper after 43 years of service. Joe was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and the Mount Carmel Senior Citizens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Julia Couch Newland; brothers, Dick, Hub and Vernon and sister, Lynn Legge. Joe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eula Stubblefield Newland of the home; sons, Steve Newland and wife Karen of Church Hill, TN, Gary Newland and wife Norma of Gray, TN and Dennis Newland and wife Alice of Booneville, MS; daughters, Rhonda Gandy Mullican and husband Joe of Hartselle, AL and Pam Allen and husband Victor of Colonial Heights, TN; brother Carl of Mt. Carmel and sisters, Nancy Templeton of Gray, TN and Mary Hensley, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Jody Newland, Anissa Spivey, Jason Newland, Amy Newland, Jerry Cooper, Misty Robinson, Morgan Alexander, Melissa Gandy, Jonathan Allen and Victoria Allen; 12 great Grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Bill Dean, Ralph Cash and card playing buddies at Mt. Carmel Senior Citizens Center. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. Friends may also call anytime at the residence. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ralph Owens officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Mount Carmel with the Hawkins County Color Guard and the TN National Guard conducting the rites. Pallbearers will be family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill is serving the Newland family.
