Joseph W. Nock entered the world on February 15, 1922. He was the eldest son of German immigrant parents Joseph and Frieda Nock of Live Oak, CA. He grew up on the family farm. He attended a one room school house near the Sutter Buttes for his elementary education and then Live Oak High School where he graduated in 1939. Following graduation, Joe moved to Los Angeles to attend a trade school. Joe volunteered for military service at the beginning of WWII and served in the Army Air Corps as a radio mechanic at the pilot training base near Bakersfield. After the war Joe returned to Live Oak where he farmed rice and prunes and had businesses in refrigeration and television. He was also involved in the management of the Chico Auto Racing Association during the 1950s. On May 25, 1963 Joe married Lorraine Bordin Antonowich and moved to Chico where he farmed almonds and walnuts. He was a long serving board member of the Butte County Farm Bureau and the Butte County Almond Hull Association Cooperative. He was elected to the Butte County Republican Central Committee where he served as Chairman. He was a long time member of Rotary Club of Durham, Elks and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Chico. Joseph passed away surrounded by family on January 22, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Walter. He is survived by his wife Lorraine, son John, daughter Ann Marie (Paul Stiplosek), and granddaughters Katherine and Charlotte Stiplosek. A rosary will be held at Brusie Funeral Home on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 5:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the Butte Agriculture Foundation or the Enloe Foundation care of Brusie Funeral Home, 626 Broadway, Chico, CA 95928.
