Joseph Robert Ruddy
September 18th, 1923 - November 7th, 2018
Joseph R. Ruddy, 95, died in his sleep, Wed, 7 November 2018. Born in Richmond, VA., 18 September 1923, he was predeceased (2005) by Mary Lou, his wife of 55+ years. An Army Veteran (SSgt), he served in Normandy & Central Europe (1943 to 1945). After serving, he met and married (1949) Mary Lou in Baltimore, MD, and graduated from University of Maryland (1951). Joe worked for Dupont as a Textile Marketer until his retirement. "The Ghost'" sailboat was built when he retired and they and their cat sailed the Eastern Seaboard and Bahamas for many years. While anchored at The Anchorage Marina in Indian Harbour Beach in 1989, they decided to become "Land Lubbers" again, settling in Satellite Beach. Joe loved attending City Council Meetings. Both of them were "Charter" members of the Volunteer Staff at the King Center for the Performing Arts, with over 25 years of service. Both Joe and Mary Lou took advantage of the (BCC) now Eastern Florida State College art classes and produced award winning drawings. During 2013, Joe relocated to Victoria Landing (ALF) in Eau Gallie, just across the bridge from the Anchorage Marina. He enjoyed the panoramic view of the Indian River from his 10th floor apartment, along with many activities and outing. There will be an informal gathering @ Long Doggers, S. Patrick Drive, Satellite Beach, after Joe's Celebration of Life Service.
