March 9th, 1947 - March 19th, 2013
Kernersville-Joseph Daniel Joe Scales, Jr., 66, went home to be with his Lord March 19, 2013. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 6:00PM Friday March 22, 2013 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Keith Hall officiating. A native of Forsyth County, Joe was the son of the late Nellie Ruth Griffin and Joseph Daniel Scales. He graduated from the former Gray High School in Winston-Salem. He married the former Patricia Anne Brewer on November 1, 1969. He was in the banking business for his entire professional career in the Kernersville/Winston-Salem area. He was a President of the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce in 1986, received the Small Business Advocate of the Year in 1989, and received the "Chairpersons Award" in 1988. He also served as President of the Kernersville YMCA. He was a member of the Kernersville Lions Club and was a founding member of the Kernersville Soccer Association. He will be missed by his family and particularly by his furry companion Elvis. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his father-in-law John Russell Brewer. Survivors include his wife Pat Scales of the home; daughter Erin Domian and Luke of Kernersville; son Jeffrey Brian Scales and Velvet Linville-Scales of Kernersville; grandchildren Hailey Domian, Arden Scales, Emerie Scales, and Angelina Domian; sister Patricia Smith and Larry of Kernersville; and a host of extended family and friends. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at the funeral home on Friday evening. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations to be made to Hospice of Forsyth, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC, 27103, or the Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adams Way, Randleman, NC, 27317.
