Josephine "Jody" Shields O'Steen
July 14th, 1940 - April 8th, 2024
Josephine Shields (née Wigglesworth) O’Steen died on April 8, 2024, at Hilton Head Hospital, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. She was 83. Jody was born on July 14, 1940, in Washington, D.C. to her parents Thomas and Evelyn Wigglesworth. She graduated from Elberton High School in Elberton, Georgia and attended Stratford College in Danville, Virginia before going to work for Merrill Lynch in Washington, D.C. Accompanying her former husband, a U.S. Navy non-commissioned officer, around the country, she lived in New York City, Norfolk, Virginia, Puerto Rico, Jacksonville, Florida, Germantown Hills, Illinois, Lexington, South Carolina, and Cartersville, Georgia. She moved to Bluffton, South Carolina in 2001 and worked as a manager in the retail industry until her retirement. Affectionately known as “Bubbles” to her friends because of her vivacious personality, she loved Christ, her family, dancing, lunches with her circle of friends, Pinot Noir, and the occasional Gin and Tonic in that order. Ms. O’Steen is survived by her children, Philip Jaskot, Tom O’Steen, Angela Biernath, Alison Laidoui, and Stacy Barnette; her brother Tom Wigglesworth; sister Judy Wilson; sixteen grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth Russell. Ms. O’Steen will be buried with her mother in Waynesboro, Virginia at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to charities that provide assistance to Wounded Warriors, a passion of Jody’s.
