Joseph Alfred Servin, 83, of Evans, CO passed away March 21, 2012 in Greeley, CO. He was born to Percy and Lucy (Castillo) Servin on May 23, 1928, The eldest of 10 children, Joseph grew up in northern Colorado attending Big Bend Primary School, Lincoln Elementary, Eaton High School and graduating from Greeley Senior High in 1948. Joseph also attended the inaugural class at Aims Community College. Drafted by the United States Army in 1950 and assigned to the "Big Red One” his entire service; Joseph was honorably discharged in 1952 as a corporal. After returning to Colorado and working for his father on the farm several years, Joseph married Dominica Trujillo (deceased) May 25, 1957. Throughout the next decade, Joseph held various jobs prior to obtaining a position with the Department of Motor Vehicle where he worked for several years before transferring to the Job Service of Colorado working as a liaison for the first migrant program as well as a OJT case worker for residents referred to the Job Service by community organizations. On September 5, 1982, Joseph married Barbara Schiager and celebrated his retirement with her in 1990. Joseph loved to camp and fish and shared that love of the outdoors with his children. A member of the Lions Club, he coached his sons in baseball in teams sponsored by that organization. He learned to play pool with his father, became very proficient, won trophies then taught his children and grandchildren to play. Always an avid reader, Joseph read for enjoyment and would pass on the Mayo Clinic Health updates to his children as a "good read”. Throughout his life, Joseph collected coins and shared his knowledge and love of this past-time with his children. Very active in the Catholic Church, Joseph was one of the first members of the youth group of Our Lady of Peace and served as a board member many years. Joseph has been a parishioner of all the Greeley Catholic churches, attending St. Mary’s the last several years. Joseph is survived by seven siblings, brothers, Richard, Anthony (Mary), Ben, Dan and, Jimmy, sisters, Gracie Ramirez and Ann Sheehan; seven children, Erlinda Servin, Kristina Servin both of Fort Collins, CO, Joseph (Kelly) Servin II and Valerie (James) Pisani both of Greeley, Denise (Alan) Carter of Evans, Kevin (Rita) Servin of Loveland, CO and Roxanne Servin-Scobee of Yuma, CO; nineteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Lucy; brothers, Gilbert and Robert; son, John Robert; and grandchildren, Danielle Linn Mendoza and Ruben Lawrence Hernandez. Viewing, Monday March 26, 2012 5-7 p.m. with Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. both at Adamson Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday March 27, 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2222 23rd Avenue, Greeley followed by interment at Linn Grove Cemetery.
