Houston, Joy Knipe 83, of St. Petersburg, died Sunday, August 16, 2009, at St. Anthony's Hospital after a long illness. Born Dec. 28, 1925, in St. Petersburg, the daughter of the late Ray J. and Virginia Mueller Knipe. She graduated St. Petersburg High 1943 and Florida State College for Women 1947 and was an Alpha Gamma Delta Alumna and a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a homemaker and affiliate member of Unity Christ Church. A lifelong love of flora and fauna led her down many garden paths including, floral arranging, wreath making, tending to her greenhouse and bird breeding. She enjoyed knitting, reading and was a loving friend, mother and grandmother. Witty, generous and ever graceful in manner, she will be remembered warmly. She is survived by sons, Philip K. and wife Hope Houston of St. Petersburg, and Robert K. and wife Kelli Houston of Orlando; grandchildren, Katherine and Ryan; brother, Ray J. Jr. and wife Patsy Knipe of Palm City; 5 nieces and 4 nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Friends may call at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. ML King St N, on Saturday, August 22 from 11:00 am to service time at 12:00 noon. Reception to follow service.
