Joy P. Thornton
July 3rd, 2015
Joy P. Thornton Joy P. Thornton, of Eugene passed away May 17, 2015. She was 62 years old. Born in Eugene on December 31, 1952 to F.J. Thornton and Vivian Taylor Thornton Muma; it was here she spent her youth. After graduating from Churchill High School, college was next but, it would not be here. She left for sunnier climes to attend the University of Hawaii. Joy graduated with an Associate’s Degree as a Registered Nurse. She enjoyed Hawaii and made it home for 10 years before returning stateside. Back in Eugene, she continued her nursing career throughout the area including the Cottage Grove Hospital. Joy eventually took a position with the Fox Hollow Residential Care Facility. Here she would work for over15 years as a RN helping her charges and making many friends along the way. Traveling was a favorite past time but she was equally at home in her garden. Joy cheered on the Trail Blazers and the Seahawks while watching games on TV or attending them in person. She was an avid fan of the Ducks. Joy made room in her life for her family and for her cats that she loved. The Standing Rock Sioux (Hunkpapa) Tribe was proud to have her as a member. She is survived by her two sons; Tory Thornton and Jesse Deloache both of Eugene; two sisters Kylee Muma of Eugene, Jaan Oliver of Salem and brother, Scott Thornton of Springfield. Joy was preceded in death by her parents. A private Celebration of Her Life will be held in July of 2015. Arrangements entrusted to Poole-Larsen Funeral Home.
