Joy Bass Wells
August 7th, 1942 - October 26th, 2015
Charlotte- Joy Bass Wells, 73, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2015 with her family by her side. She was the only child of Jean Bass Mackay and Ty Cobb Bass who preceded her in death. A graduate of Myers Park High School, she volunteered as a Red Cross Gray Lady, a Girl Scout Leader, and a cheerleading coach (Starclaire Athletic League) before starting a career in the insurance industry. After the family was transferred to Houston, Mrs. Wells began a career with Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate, after which she transferred to management with Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate Services in Houston and in Atlanta. Her final vocation was with Marcus Thomas & Co. where she worked part time until coming back to Charlotte when she and her husband retired in 1999. Mrs. Wells is survived by her husband, William P. Wells, Jr.; her daughter, Laura Smith, of Acworth, GA; her son, Lee Wells, of League City, TX along with their spouses, Jerry Smith and Susan Wells. She is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses, Leslie Sims and Adam, Stephen Wells and Dr. McKinlea Wells, Dr. Kevin Wells and Jennifer, William Welch and Laura, Haley Wilson and Eddie, Jared Smith and Bailey. Finally, her survivors include her great grandchildren, Jacob, Ethan, Liam, Preston, Nora Joy, Anna, Oliver, and Greyson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 30, 2015 in the Chapel of J.B. Tallent Funeral Service with The Reverend Bill Roth of Myers Park United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:45 A.M. prior to the service. The family is indebted to Dr. Sridhar Pal and Christie Thompson of Levine Cancer Institute/Ballantyne as well as all others responsible for her care during the past year.
