Joyce Rosellia Baker
June 2nd, 1935 - May 7th, 2019
Joyce Rosellia Baker, 83, of Ione, CA, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, with her loving family at her side. She was born in Blackduck, MN on June 2, 1935, a daughter of the late Julia (Bloomquist) and Stone Pearson, and raised in Amador County. She was introduced to Barney “BW” Baker by her brother Don at the Amador County Fair, and the following year the two ran off to Carson City to start their beautiful 58-year marriage. She worked as a bookkeeper for BW’s business in Ione and raised three wonderful children. She attended Cornerstone Church of Ione, she loved to garden and take care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and affectionately earned the name “Granny.” Leading by example, she made sure her family knew how important they were to her, and she constantly gave love and encouragement to all. The most important thing to Granny was her family, and she started the family tradition of camping by taking all eight grandkids up for their first camping trip at Silver Lake. In the years to follow, they would go to Blue Lakes and Hope Valley, and they still do a family camping trip every year, and will always continue to do so in her name and memory. Granny is survived by her children, Linda (Brian) Carlson, LeRoy (Linda Kantack) Baker, and Cheryl (Leo) Reis, all of Ione, CA; brothers, Donald (Sallie) Pearson and Ivan Pearson, all of Plymouth, CA; grandchildren, Vince (Carrie) Carlson, Jason Baker, Dusty (Amy) Baker, Leo (Trisha) Reis, Michelle (Pat) Riley, Karen (Steve) Nash, Jonathan (Ali) Reis, and Nicole (Danny) Bowers; great grandchildren, Garrett and Gretta Carlson, Gillian and Grady Nash, Jack and Sam Baker, Porter and Tyson Reis, Celaya and Tanner Riley, Keersten, Kennedy, and Kimber Reis, and Briana, Taylor, and Blake Bowers; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney; sisters, Gladys Mott and Arlene Tourville; brother-in-law, Orvil and his wife Juanita Baker; and sister-in-law, Jessie and her husband Tom Hoyle. Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, May 24, 2019, at 1:00 P.M. at Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson, CA. Donations in Joyce’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1710 Webster St. Oakland, CA 94612.
