June 22, 1929 – March 4, 2016 Resident of Santa Cruz, California A graveside ceremony will be held on Sunday in Santa Cruz for Joyce Belford who passed away peacefully here on March 4, 2016. She was 86 years old. Mrs. Belford was born in New York, and a longtime resident of New Haven, Connecticut. As a young mother, raising her family in New Haven, she and her former husband Richard Belford, were very active in both the Civil Rights Movement and anti-war organizations. Her home and her children were of paramount importance in her life; taking precedence over other activities. Joyce was Brownie Mother, and a member of both the P.TA. and B'nai B'rith International. She was an accomplished artist working with pastels to create likenesses of people from all corners of the world. She was fascinated with the cultures, and the colors; her subjects depicting the very essence of humanity. Her blessed life will be treasured and not forgotten. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law Karen (Shira) Belford and Jonathan Adler of Santa Cruz, her sons and daughters-in-law, Bree and Pia Belford of Sydney, Australia; Keith and Sheri Belford, of New Haven, and Glenn Belford also of New Haven. She also leaves her grandchildren Aubrey Belford, Mariah Belford, Ori (Mayra) Adler, and Evan Adler. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday March 6, 2016 at Oakwood Cemetery in Santa Cruz.
