Joyce Ann Brooks Gambrel

On December 31, 2022, Joyce Ann Brooks Gambrel, 73, passed away peacefully at her home in Frankfort, Kentucky. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Robie Pete Gambrel. Joyce was born in Lynch, Kentucky on May 12, 1949. Joyce was raised in Corbin, Kentucky until she married in 1970. Joyce and Pete made their home on a farm in Turkey Creek, Flat Lick, Kentucky where they raised their children. Joyce was a retired Bank Teller at Union National Bank in Barbourville, Kentucky and a member at Springfield Baptist Church in Bimble, Kentucky. Joyce loved to read, plant flowers, and sit on her porch drinking sweet tea. Joyce enjoyed shopping and giving to others. Joyce was a true Corbin Redhound and loved UK Basketball. Joyce was loved by her Grand-Pups; Pacey, Phoebe, Murphy and Loki. Joyce was the daughter of the late Charles Brooks Jr. and Louise Payne Brooks of Corbin, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Kay Brooks and a niece, Kara Jo Ashley Brooks. She is survived by three brothers; C. Wayne Brooks (Linda) of Williamsburg, Kentucky; Terry Brooks (Laura) of Pekin, Indiana; and Jerry Brooks of Corbin, Kentucky. Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her daughters and granddaughters, Shawna Renea Gambrel Broughton and Eden Alyssa Broughton of Frankfort, Kentucky and Robbie Michelle Gambrel and Rhylie Peyten Hubbard of Barbourville, Kentucky. Joyce loved like a daughter, Sabrina Hensley of Barbourville, Kentucky along with her children; Ashley, Cassie and Matthew. Joyce also leaves to mourn her passing many family and friends. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 3:00pm-5:00pm at Clark Legacy Center in Frankfort, Kentucky. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 5:00pm.
