Years ago, when I was much younger, I thought that when I wrote my final words, I would have very important, philosophical things to impart to my children. Grand, final words of wisdom. But now that I have reached that final stage in my life, I find that I have no great words of wisdom to pass on to anyone. For one thing, there are too many, and who cares to listen to them anyway? We each must learn our own lessons from life and develop our own philosophy to live by. When you get old you'll find that you won't regret the things you did so much as the things you didn't do. But , as the following song says, no matter what we do ... "QUE SERA, SERA" ...Whatever will be, will be. To My Wife and Children I LOVE YOU VERY, VERY MUCH THAT'S ALL THAT REALLY MATTERS -------------------- Joubert's last words in the hospital were: "What came first the chicken or the egg?" So we thought it appropriate to print this quote from his memoirs: Why does life exist? Why were we born? What is our purpose in life? Why is nature so insistent on keeping all the species procreating. Why are there mosquitoes, and spiders and snakes, and all those disagreeable creatures? Why were they created? For what purpose -- to bite and annoy us? What is the ultimate goal of all this life, if any? Also, which came first, the chicken or the egg? Joubert Malouf POEM: The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line, Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it. Ohmar Khayyam
