Judith Bernadine Trueb
December 31st, 1939 - September 14th, 2018
“Ms. Judy had Style” Judith Bernadine Trueb (Smyth) December 31, 1939 – September 14, 2018 At home and in the company of family, Judy Trueb passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of September 14, 2018. Judy was born in Hamilton, Montana, on December 31, 1939 to Bernard and Margaret Smyth. At that time, her parents owned a farm where they grew sugar beets, and her earliest memories were of snow, and of playing in the big fields of cut grass and alfalfa. In the ‘40s the family relocated to West Seattle where Bernard built homes and Margaret was a beautician. Judy graduated from Holy Rosary High School in 1957. She married Gary Sparks, and together they had two children, Cynthia and Constance. Judy started a career at the food brokerage firm McCabe Damon Company, working as an administrative assistant. As a young working mother, she still found time to take her daughters skiing, swimming, camping, and travelling. Judy reached the level of Financial Manager, and after 36 years, retired from the firm in 1996. Judy remarried in 2002 to David Trueb. As a loving couple they enjoyed spending a great deal of time in the company of their children, grandchildren, and friends. Judy and David did everything together: they were active members of the Good Time Dance Club and the Bothell Sons of Norway; they volunteered at Providence Mount St. Vincent; they played golf, and they loved to travel and especially enjoyed their annual trip to Mazatlan. In addition, they also shared their love of the theatre with family and friends, and spent many an evening playing cards. David passed in 2013, but Judy continued to stay active volunteering with Emily’s shop, the Ladies Luncheon, and visiting friends at Providence Mount St. Vincent. She enjoyed playing golf with the Ladies Golf group at Foster’s Golf Links, and being on the Cousin’s bowling team at Roxbury Lanes. Judy also volunteered at the 5th Avenue Theatre. Judy is remembered as a loving wife and mother, grandmother, and as a generous and gracious host who always set a perfect table. Judy is survived by her two daughters Cindy and Connie, six grandchildren, and five (soon to be six!) great-grandchildren, a stepdaughter and three stepsons and their families, as well as her brother Paul Smyth and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sister Claudia, and her husband David. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 9th, at 11:15 a.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery at 18600 SE 240th St., Kent, Washington 98042. In honor of Judy’s life, please consider a donation to Providence Mount St. Vincent, 4831 35th Ave SW, Seattle, Washington 98126.
