January 21st, 1932 - December 30th, 2015
Lexington, Kentucky Julia Ann Gay Florence, born January 21, 1932 in Lexington, Kentucky. Daughter of the late Virginia Jessee Gay and Robert Kirk Gay. Widow of W.C. Florence. Graduated from Henry Clay High School in January, 1950, and then attended the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, graduating from there in 1953. She spent the next 44 years working in many different areas of the hospital, holding a variety of positions and retired in 1997. Julia (or Judy as she was commonly known) is survived by four children: Candice (Jeff) Loop, Lexington, KY; Jean G. Florence, Denver, CO; Michael A. Florence, Orlando, FL; and Jeffery D. Florence, Lexington, KY; and a very special granddaughter, Rachel A. Loop, Lexington, Ky; she is also survived by two brothers, Robert E. (Faye) Gay; William R. (Frankie) Gay; and sister, Martha G. (Bill) Gill; along with numerous of cherished nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. A special thanks to her wonderful caregivers, Tonya Mesha and Jametta for their love and care of her during her struggle with Parkinson's. Judy loved to read, host family gatherings of all kinds, inviting even those who were not family. After retiring she developed a love for genealogy and putting together family photo albums. She was the rock of our family and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral Information Visitation will be 4-8 PM, Monday, January 4, 2016 at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing. Funeral will be at 11 AM, Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing with burial to follow at Lexington Cemetery.
