Justin David Smoak, 24, resident of Lexington County, passed away unexpectedly on July 25, 2021. Born March 31, 1997, in Columbia, SC, he was the son of Kevin John and Janet McManus Smoak. Justin was a 2015 graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School. He was employed with Just Trees, a perfect fit due to his love of nature. He was passionate about video games and rap music. He was very creative and enjoyed drawing. He loved the outdoors and its calming effect, especially gazing at the stars. He was a loyal Kevin Durant, Atlanta Braves, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan. He shared a love of the Washington Redskins with his dad and brother. Those who knew Justin knew he was a generous young man who genuinely cared for people. Most of all, he loved his family. Spending time with them is what he truly cherished. He persevered through a nine year struggle with mental illness and drug addiction; however, he never gave up. Justin is survived by his parents, Kevin and Janet Smoak of Lexington; brother and sister-in-law, Jacob and Brianna Smoak of Charleston; maternal grandparents, Elaine and Boyd Westmoreland of Cayce; paternal grandmother, Patricia Smoak of West Columbia; and paternal grandfather, Walter J. Smoak of Murrells Inlet. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory Aunt Donna, Uncle Mark, Logan, Tanner, Uncle Wally, Aunt Carolyn, Sabrina, Andrew and Madison; Uncle Scott, Aunt Jan, Kate, Aunt Alison and Uncle Mitch. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Wallace P. McManus, Jr. Though his earthly journey has come to an end, he will forever live in the hearts of those who love him. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with the Rev. Tim Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens.
