Karen Ann Troxel

In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes. Karen Ann (White) Troxel, beloved accountant and staple of the Yuba-Sutter community passed away on January 6th, 2021, after a brief but fierce battle with cancer. Born on November 11th, 1948, she grew up in Yuba City. She was the eldest of 3 siblings, Jimmy and Marsha. While they each had their strengths, Karen would be first to claim she'd gotten the brains. She attended YCHS before sowing wild oats and finding adventures in distant places like Colorado and Alaska. When she returned to Marysville in the 1970s, she was bartending at the Thoroughbred when she caught the eye of a young drummer, Alan Troxel. Just three weeks later, in Reno, with a cigar band for a ring, he became her husband and the love of her life. They were married 42 years, until his sudden passing in 2019. Together, they had the time of their lives, with many loved pets, exotic vacations, cocktail-infused backyard singalongs and more fun than most could only dream of. Later in life, she took pride in refurbishing their 1919 Craftsman style home in Wheatland, where they lived for over almost 40 years. In the 1990s, Karen served as the Mayor of Wheatland. After years of keeping books at her father's business, AATCO, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of owning her own business: her pride and joy, Troxel's Front Page Business and Tax Service. She was dearly loved by all her clients, many of whom stayed with her through 20+ years in business. She was a friend and advisor to all. Karen was also loved by her employees throughout the years, even when she was snappy during tax season. To work with Karen was to love Karen. She is remembered by her nieces and nephews as the "fun aunt" who always brought with her unbeatable style, party poppers, rousing family stories, political jousting, and a crisp $5 bill to make you feel special even on your siblings' birthday. Karen had a keen political mind and a memory like no other, and while this gave her the ability to roast the opposition, Karen put her relationships first, modeling kindness and compassion. She never met a person or animal that she didn't help in every way possible or love with the fullest of hearts. But of course, she wanted to note that "at least I lived to see Trump voted out". Karen is preceded in death by her husband, Alan Troxel; and her parents, Jim Sr. and Maxine White of Browns Valley. She is survived by her brother, Jimmy White (Vicky) of Loma Rica; sister, Marsha White of Yuba City; brothers-in-law, Bruce Troxel (Barnette) of Yuba City, and Darryl Troxel (Lauren) of San Ramon; nieces, Shannan Troxel-Andreas (Michael) of Chico, Jaime White Gascon (Joevic) of Marysville, and Brittney Troxel of Sioux Falls, IA; nephews, James White IV (Brianna) of Loma Rica, Elliott Troxel of Yuba City, and Steven Troxel of San Ramon. She is also survived by 5 beautiful great nieces, Carmen and Madison White of Loma Rica, Camille and Miley Troxel of Yuba City, Ember Andreas of Chico, and one new nephew, Castiel Gascon of Marysville. The family sends a heartfelt thank you to all the clients and friends reaching out. They hope to hold a celebration in memory of Karen once it is safe to gather.
