March 29th, 1953 - May 27th, 2017
Vander Ploeg, Karen D. 64, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at home, in the presence of her Husband and Son, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Born in St. Petersburg, FL, on March 29, 1953 to the late William A. Werly and the late Jean D. Guthrie, she married Thomas on April 20, 1985. Karen graduated from St. Petersburg High School in the class of 1971. Karen was a Sr. Claims Adjuster at Allstate Insurance for 20 yrs. Karen was an active member of Faith Covenant Church. She fulfilled her passion to serve God and Others by creating the Sunrise Run. Karen is survived by her Husband, Thomas Vander Ploeg; Son, Evan M. Vander Ploeg; Three Sisters, Terry Wade, Katherine Elrod, Jennifer Hood; Brother, Billy Werly; and predeceased by her brother Michael Werly. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, June 10th at 1:00 PM: at Faith Covenant Church, 150 62nd Ave. NE, St. Petersburg. In lue of flowers please send donations to Faith Covenant Church earmarked for Karen, all donations will be distributed to some of Karen's favorite youth ministries.
