Karen Jean Vargas

A wonderful loving mother, a woman of so many talents, skills and huge warm heart, Karen Jean Vargas, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2019, after a long courageous battle with breast cancer, in her beloved home surrounded by close friends and her loving husband, Larry Vargas. Karen was born June 12, 1954 in Colby, Kansas, to Elmer and Dorothy Bishop. They moved to different places before finally settling on Loveland, Colorado. Karen had four siblings: Kelley, Kathy, Kris, and Michael. Karen lived an eventful life. She worked for the Greeley Evans School District as a programmer with the records department, working her way up to become the Supervisor. She worked there for nearly 14 years eventually moving on to the Charter School Institute of Colorado in Denver, working there nearly 3 years, before again moving to the Brighton School District, where she finally reached her 20 year mark and retired Even in her retirement, she was always on the go. Karen loved the outdoors and moved to small mountain town, Poncha Springs, Colorado in July 2018 with her husband of 13 years. They bought their dream home and hoped to start an antiques and collectibles shop. Karen is survived by husband Larry Vargas. Also, she is survived by four daughters: Alexa Poole, Angela James, Karina Vick, and Jolene Nava. She is survived by seven grandchildren: Asha Oppie, Samuel James, Zaquery James, Dylan Vick, Marley Vick, Yuri Nava, and Freya Nava. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society, or volunteer at various cancer outreach agencies. The Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center Oncology Department can always use assistants. Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loveland, CO on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. with viewing 1 hour prior to services. Interment will take place at Loveland Burial Park immediately following services and a reception will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church following the interment. A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Salida shortly after, date pending.
