All-States Cremation - Centennial
Karl Ivicz Sims
January 27th, 1958 - June 5th, 2020
Karl Ivicz Sims was born on January 27, 1958 in Omaha, Nebraska. The third child and second son of nine children to the union of Aron and Essie Sims. He received his Early Education in Omaha Public Schools and Secondary Education in Denver Public Schools after the family relocated to Denver, Colorado in 1966. He was a quiet child who loved to spend time reading comic books and writing short stories. Karl furthered his education at Emily Griffith Opportunity School which later led him to enroll in Denver Metropolitan College where he received his degree in fine arts. Karl will be remembered for his passion for writing. In 2011 Karl wrote and published “But by The Grace of the Lord there Goes I”. In a memoir Karl describes, "I have written from my earliest memories; I have tried my hand at songwriting, novels, short stories, and plays, but my greatest gift is poetry." Karl was a one of a kind type man; to know Karl you had to have tough skin. Karl had no problem telling it like it was. In his mind, it was “My way or the highway”. Although Karl was strong-willed, he had a tender heart to help others. He volunteered at Daddy Bruce's Thanksgiving dinners and fed the homeless. If you were in a pickle, you could depend on Karl. Karl worked a variety of jobs; he was a jack of all trades and a master of a few things. His most enjoyable employment was with the Denver Rescue Mission where he helped with the men's outreach program. Karl accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. Life sometimes got the best of Karl and he later rededicated his life to Christ at Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Aurora, Colorado. Over the last few years, Karl's health declined causing numerous complications and eventually led to him becoming blind. Regardless of his health condition Karl continued to push forward and fight another day. If you would ask Karl how he was doing he would respond, “Well I am still here. He hasn’t taken me yet.” On June 5th, 2020 Karl departed this life in peace with his brother and sister by his side. Karl is preceded in death by his parents Aaron L. and Essie B. Sims, his brother Aron L. Sims Jr., his Nephew Richard E. Sims, and his Fiance' Undara Hortin. Karl leaves to cherish his memory his siblings Minster Lawrence Sims (Valerie), Aurora, CO, Myron Sims, Denver, CO, Anthony Sims Denver, CO, James Sims (Arla) Ft. Collins, CO, Marshall Sims, Aurora, CO, Sharon Bradstreet Vallejo, CA, Monica Guss (Pastor Malcolm) Aurora, CO, his daughter in love Printona Horton (Da`Jamari and Da`Viryn Rosado), caregiver Jenene Cork and a host of relatives and friends.
